«The Evening Odesa» newspaper is one of the most widely read and oldest ongoing print publications in Ukraine. It was created on July 1, 1973.
Our founding editor, famous and beloved Odesa journalist Boris Derevyanko, who was well known for protesting corruption in print, was shot by a hired killer 25 years ago – one of the first journalists in former USSR to to be killed for doing his job. (The name of Boris Derevyanko is inscribed on a monument at Arlington Cemetery.)
«The Evening Odesa» has been and remains a truly independent print publication. During all of its half-century history, the newspaper has consistently been committed to journalistic standards and professional ethics. We also continually support educators, creative writers, poets, and culture workers.
Оur editorial office employs 15 people. When full scale invasion began, all of our employees decided to stay in Odesa, and to keep writing about what happens to our people during the war. Not a single one of us left the city.
Unfortunately, at this moment the newspaper is under threat due to the difficult financial situation caused by this war.
The editorial team really wants to save one of the country's oldest and most committed independent print publications with a prominent half-century history of fighting corruption and promoting culture.
We hope you can support us!
Thank you for your help!
